2025-2026 Monthly Meetings

Monthly (Member) Meetings are scheduled on the 3rd Thursday of the month from October thru April:

Time: 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM

Monthly (Board of Directors) Meetings are  also held on the 3rd Thursday of the month from October thru April:

Time: 10:00 AM – 11:15 AM on the same dates

(BOD meetings at the Sanibel Library will be on the upper level & BOD at the Sanibel Recreation Center will be in the Osprey room)

Welcome to the Sanibel Captiva Art League 2025-2026 Season of plein air painting.   All outdoor painting is naturally subject to weather conditions.  A brief friendly critique follows the morning session.

to be held at the Sanibel Public Library, 770 Dunlop Road, Sanibel FL 33957.

FESTIVAL OF TREES 2025

IT'S OFFICIAL...We are excited to announce that the Sanibel-Captiva Art League was accepted to participate in the Festival of Trees, organized by the Community Housing and Resources group. [Thank you Sherry Fonseth-Lais]. This event, scheduled in November 2025, will display a uniquely designed SCAL tree as part of a larger celebration where creativity and community converge to bring a festive and artistic touch to the holiday season. 


The event will include the SCAL team (volunteers needed) to decorate  our tree on November 19 and 20, a community family day on November 21, and a ticketed benefit with an auction of trees and wreaths on November 22

  • Artistic Theme: The theme for the SCAL tree is “Island Masterpieces” allowing for a broad representation of human-made or nature-made artworks found on Sanibel Island. Our SCAL members are encouraged to create/contribute ornaments to decorate the tree.
  • Ornament Quantity:  100 pieces total (to cover a 7’5” tree).  If possible, we request each participating artist contribute 4 (or more) ornaments.  Extras will be donated to the winning bidder.
  • Topper & Tree Skirt:  3D creation of artists’ tools, mostly used paint brushes. Skirt (still to be determined).
  • Ornament Criteria:  2D or 3D ornaments.  Size 6” rounds or 4” ornaments.
  • Deadline for ornament submission:  Thursday, October 16, 2025 (bring to SCAL member meeting at the Sanibel Library, 1st floor conference room, at  11:30 am).

Ode to Joy is the featured theme for the Sanibel-Captiva Art League sponsored art exhibit at BIG ARTS for the 2025-2026 season.  This theme is open to broad interpretation.  Freshly rendered works not previously exhibited in public are cordially invited to participate in this popular juried exhibition, which is open to all members of the Sanibel-Captiva Art League and the Art Council of Southwest Florida.
