FESTIVAL OF TREES 2025

We are excited to announce that the Sanibel-Captiva Art League was accepted to participate in the Festival of Trees, organized by the Community Housing and Resources group. This event, scheduled in November 2025, will display a uniquely designed SCAL tree as part of a larger celebration where creativity and community converge to bring a festive and artistic touch to the holiday season.

On Saturday, November 22 from 5:00-7:30 pm, there will be a benefit when trees and wreaths will be auctioned off by artist Rachel Pierce. This is a ticketed event with dinner.

  • Artistic Theme:  “Island Masterpieces” allowing for a broad representation of human-made or nature-made artworks found on Sanibel Island. Our SCAL members are encouraged to create ornaments to decorate the tree.
  • Ornament Quantity:  100-125 pieces total (to cover a 7’5” tree).  If possible, we request each participating artist contribute 4 or more ornaments.
  • Ornament Criteria: Ornaments should be 4” square shaped or 6” round, 2D or 3D featuring themes related to Sanibel and Captiva island style. They must include a secure hanging method and be free of live (or previously living), dried, edible, or scented materials.
  • Topper & Tree Skirt:  To be announced.
  • Ornament Delivery: All completed ornaments must be brought to the October 16th SCAL membership meeting on the first floor of the Sanibel library, 11:30 am-1:30 pm. If you are not on island by then, please contact Sherry Fonseth-Lais at sher1130@aol.com to get mailing information for your creations to help meet this deadline.
  • Tree Assembly/Designer Days:  Decorating the tree will occur on site at the Sanibel Community House, over a period of three partial days, (Tuesday) November 18, 1-6 pm; (Wednesday) November 19, 9am -2 pm; (Thursday) November 20, 9am-2pm.   We will need one or two volunteers on each day to help Sherry decorate.
